About this document

A rent receipt is a short written record that rent was paid. It says how much was paid, when it was received, how it was paid, which rental period it covers, which property it is for, who paid and who received it.

This builder asks how the tenant paid (cash, electronic transfer, money order, personal check or another way), the amount, the date received, the rental period, the property, who received the rent (the landlord or a property manager) and who paid it (up to three tenants). You can add a receipt number, and say when the receipt is issued or leave that as a blank to fill in by hand.

The receipt records only what you give it. It does not say what a receipt must contain or what it proves, and what a landlord must provide depends on the lease and your state.
